24 Years of New Telekom Ltd.: From the Dawn of the Internet to Private 5G and CloudConnect
New Telekom Ltd. celebrates exactly 24 years since its registration as a limited liability company on April 10, 2026. Over more than two decades, it has grown from a voice service provider at the turn of the millennium into a full-fledged B2B telecommunications operator with its own backbone network built on Juniper technology, direct peering at NIX.CZ and RIPE NCC, interconnection with 120+ foreign operators, and a service portfolio ranging from guaranteed symmetrical internet through MPLS VPN, SD-WAN and CloudConnect to industrial IoT and Tier III server hosting.

What has changed over 24 years since the Ltd. registration — and what remains the same?

New Telekom was founded at the very beginning of the new millennium, at a time when the internet and telephony were just beginning to penetrate the wider public. On April 10, 2002, the company was transformed into an Ltd. — a legal form that accompanies it to this day. Twenty-four years have passed since then, full of technological transformations: from analogue circuits to FTTH/FTTO fibre, from public switched telephony to VoIP and SIP Trunk, from physical server rooms to the cloud and CloudConnect private links to AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform. What has not changed: the emphasis on an individual approach to each customer and long-term relationships. The average length of cooperation with a New Telekom customer exceeds 12 years — a figure that speaks for itself in the telecom sector with its high competition and churn rate.

What key milestones have shaped New Telekom over 24 years?

New Telekom’s history is not a story of linear growth — it is a story of strategic decisions that anticipated the market. 2003 brought the first international interconnection and membership in CNPAC. 2007 was a turning point: New Telekom became a member of NIX.CZ (the neutral internet exchange in the Czech Republic) and RIPE NCC (the regional internet registry for Europe), built a Juniper-powered data core, and launched direct interconnections with the largest domestic and international operators — BT, Deutsche Telekom, Telenor, Telia and dozens of others. 2009 confirmed the results: New Telekom ranked among the TOP 5 most significant operators in the Czech Republic providing services to business customers. The decade 2010–2020 brought an expanded portfolio including IP VPN, MPLS, server hosting, security services, and in 2013 the establishment of a subsidiary NTcom specialising in telecom distribution and data networks. In 2022, strategic steps arrived that define New Telekom for the coming period: joining the operator Netcore, launching CloudConnect (private MPLS VPN links to clouds), and expanding into IoT connectivity. 2024 completed an EU infrastructure modernisation project — new monitoring software and new hardware with energy savings of more than 50% , plus strengthened connectivity to Frankfurt.

What does New Telekom offer business customers in 2026?

New Telekom’s portfolio in 2026 covers the entire spectrum of B2B telecommunications needs:
  • Guaranteed symmetrical internet over FTTH/FTTO fibre with 99.9% availability and a Juniper backbone with direct access to NIX.CZ
  • Data servicesMPLS VPN, SD-WAN, L2/L3 circuits, branch interconnection via a network of 120+ operators
  • CloudConnect — private MPLS VPN links to AWS Direct Connect, Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute and Google Cloud Interconnect outside the public internet
  • IoT connectivity — global SIM cards, eSIM with eUICC, LTE-M, NB-IoT, M2M with coverage in 240+ countries and a self-service portal with REST API
  • IT securityISO/IEC 27001 audits, NIS2 compliance, Fortinet FortiGate implementation, Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA)
  • Server hostingTier III data centre, UPS, monitoring and technical support 24/7
  • VoIP and SIP Trunk — virtual PBX, WebRTC, number porting

Why does longevity matter — especially in B2B telecommunications?

In the B2B telecom segment, an operator’s length of presence in the market is not just a marketing number. It is a guarantee that the provider has survived technology cycles — the transition from ATM to IP, from ISDN to VoIP, from physical server rooms to the cloud — and has consistently invested in its own infrastructure. Since 2000, New Telekom has been building and operating its own backbone network: it does not rely on resold capacity, but on its own investments in Juniper technology, its own interconnections via NIX.CZ, and direct relationships with partners such as BT, Deutsche Telekom or Telia. For business customers — particularly in the context of NIS2 (the EU cybersecurity directive) and DORA (EU 2022/2554) — this means an auditable, transparent partner with a proven history of operating critical infrastructure.

Conclusion

24 years is not a given in telecommunications. It is the result of consistent investment in owned infrastructure, long-term customer relationships, and the ability to adapt the portfolio to technological change — from voice circuits through MPLS to 5G IoT and private cloud links.
